How To Sell A Gazillion eBooks In No Time edition by Russell Blake Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews
Unlike so many others, I didn't expect to be given inside knowledge as to how to be a millionaire overnight. Obviously, this book is intended to poke fun at a system that has some serious flaws. This is a laugh out loud fun ride that will give you to some perspective into your own writing journey. I enjoyed it, not for it's prolific prose, (For that, buy his other books. They are wonderful!) but to get a good laugh and poke fun at ourselves as writers.
Funniest book I have read in... as long as I can remember. Every writer should read it. The advice on posting in message boards is priceless, as is the writing advice. I had no idea that too many paragraph breaks gave readers the impression of a lazy writer. I learned so much. I am eagerly awaiting PedoCop the Movie. (Note The writing of this review was outsourced to Bangladesh.)
I often chase down a book mentioned by the Wall St. Journal from a business standpoint as it piques my interest. That was how I first found "Wool" which was well done and a phenomena since it came out in self published e-book form first, later released as a hardback and trade paperback once it became an e-book smash.
Well, according to WSJ Russell Blake does sell a gazillion ebooks and his output is amazing and supposedly James Patterson has asked him to co-write one of his stories. (Although I tend to disdain that practice and avoid those books by Patterson, Clancy, etc.) So I decided to download one of his thrillers and will get to it shortly but this one sounded interesting as well.
One of the funniest satirical pieces I have read in a long time! Great for readers and a must for those into self publishing. Really, as far as the writing tips go, a manual of what not to do but as far as the marketing and attitude tips, a real panic.
I have to admit I did not read the description but what a great book to accidentally buy!
While it is a parody on many self-publishing books on the market Russell Blake's examples illustrate what not to do better than many real books I've seen. Anyone who reads this and thinks he is recommending following any of the advice he is giving has missed the point of the book. He is no more seriously suggesting plagiarism then he is dating a celeb to sell your book or buy book reviews... The book is a spoof. A well done one. The laughter disturbed my cat a few times (woke her up... see tip from book... kitties). I'll be lending this to my husband and buying as a gift for a few writer friends. I think some of the books to help newbie authors have value but this book is a great balance reminding authors not to take themselves too seriously and to think about the advice they are getting. Is the advice useful/doable/repeatable? Buy this book. You won't regret it.
Russell Blake is one of those new indie authors, the ones making a good living (as well as a name for themselves) primarily by writing, marketing and selling books online, through outlets like , Barnes & Noble and others. Russell is particularly prolific, having written nearly a book a month for the last two years, and has recently even been contracted to co-write a book with well-known writer Clive Cussler. Most of Blake's books have been in the thriller/suspense genre, although he also writes NA/YA/romance as RE Blake, and has also published a few non-fiction books, such as this mock-tutorial, "How to Sell a Gazillion eBooks In No Time."
Having read a few of Mr Blake's other works - most notably several of his books in the "Jet" series - I am somewhat familiar with the artist's work. Blake is very thorough, witty and intelligent in this rather sarcastic, intentionally self-absorbed primer for the budding indie author, though while reading, I often had a difficult time discerning his sarcasm from what might actually be sound advice. Much like something from "The Onion," it often fools the reader, with the line between snarkiness and reality frequently smudged and murky.
I don't know Blake personally - no doubt he's too busy partying with 18 year old supermodels on his private yacht somewhere off the coast of Mexico to be seen fraternizing with the likes of more common people such as me - but I like to think that he'd be a great guy to share a beer with. Even if he is smarter than most people.
"How To Sell A Gazillion eBooks In No Time (even if drunk, high or incarcerated), a parody of all things writing-related."
I enjoy Rusell Blake's snarky sense of humour and this book is hilarious!
To those who thought a prolific author was going to give away the all the secrets to the self-publishing industry, I feel sorry for you.
To those who griped that they felt ripped off, here are a few clues
*Gazillion is not a number.
*"even if drunk, high or incarcerated" should have been a HUGE clue.
*Last but not least if you do not know what a parody is (an imitation of a particular writer, artist or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect), do a little research.
I am a Russell Blake fan and have enjoyed the JET, ASSASSIN and BLACK series -- this book was a bonus! Get ready to laugh -- then see if you can pick out the tiny hidden gems of information hidden throughout the book.
